Jamestown is situated at the top of the Meggat Water in the heart of the Eskdale Hills just 10 miles northwest of Langholm. Under the same ownership the surrounding farms of Glendinning Hope, Glenshanna and Megdale produce quality South Country Cheviot and Scottish Blackface lambs. The location is ideal for walking, cycling and touring. Fishing and golf can be arranged locally. The valley and surrounding hills are rich in wildlife and birdlife, and there is a wealth of local history and sites of archeological interest to be explored, including the disused antimony mine, 'The Louisa Mine', at Glenshanna. Glendinning is noted as the birthplace of the renowned Scottish engineer, Thomas Telford, born in 1753. |
